Logan-Rogersville High School Student Council Receives Top National Award
Rogersville, MO (April 10)—For its exemplary record of leadership, service, and activities that improve the school and community, the Logan Rogersville student council has been recognized as a 2023 National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Student Council (NatStuCo). The NatStuCo program is supported by its parent organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
The LRHS student council designed and implemented events this year that connected the council with the community as well as the school district. In 2022, the LRHS student council raised awareness for the April School Bond Initiative and helped facilitate voter registration. This school year, the LRHS student council hosted a pancake breakfast in December that raised $941 for the LR chapter of Care to Learn. The council worked in collaboration with the Rogersville Chamber of Commerce to build games for children to play at the Fall Harvest Festival, package eggs for the Rogersville City Park Easter Egg Hunt, and participated in the city Christmas parade.
“Exceptional student councils are a hallmark of exceptional schools,” said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. “The Logan-Rogersville student council has taken student leadership to the next level, creating a culture promoting scholarship and citizenship that resonates far beyond their team. I’m delighted to recognize their hard work with the National Gold Council of Excellence Award for their commitment to service, leadership, and uplifting the voices of their peers.”
Dr. McKenzie, principal of LRHS, stated, “Watching emerging leaders develop new ideas to encourage student involvement, improve school climate, and serve the community is what it is all about. I love their enthusiasm and I enjoy working collaboratively with our student council to find the best ways to achieve their goals.”
A student council must meet a variety of criteria to earn the National Council of Excellence Award. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings, and a democratic election process, the councils must have demonstrated successful sponsorship and participation in activities such as leadership development and service to the school and community.
