Safe & Sober Presentation

April 18, 2024

The focus of the Safe & Sober program continues to be on the prevention of substance misuse.  High Schools can sign up to partner with Safe & Sober and use their program and curriculum to design programs for their students.  LRHS used the 2023-2024 Safe & Sober program guide and created a presentation that was delivered in four grade-level specific sessions on April 18th.  The spring is a transitional time for substance prevention programs with Prom and Graduation on the horizon.  Students heard facts about alcohol, marijuana, vaping, and fentanyl.  “We can’t assume kids know about the impact these substances can have on their health,” said Dr. McKenzie, High School Principal.  “If we cause at least one student to think differently today, then it was definitely worth the time.”

At the conclusion of the program, students were challenged to take a stand and commit to being safe and sober.  Over 300 LRHS students took the pledge and marked at least one of the pledge statements on the card.

Logan-Rogersville High School was given the 2023-2024 Joe Rickman Award.  Joe was a tireless advocator for Safe and Sober and worked with the Coalition for Roadway Safety.  This award provided LRHS with $1000 to promote safer alternatives to substance misuse.
