Class of 2025
It is time to be thinking about the transition plan after high school.
LRHS graduates have many great options: immediate employment, military enlistment, technical training, or degree attainment at a 2-year or 4-year college. Application Month occurs in October of the senior year so exploring these options should be happening now. When counselors met with juniors during scheduling this spring, many juniors reported they had not started this process yet.
On May 7th, we are taking all juniors on a field trip to tour a local college. The goal is to allow students to be on a college campus, tour academic and residential facilities, learn about the college admission process, and try out the food in a campus dining hall.
Next week, the high school will be on a block schedule. On Tuesday, May 7th, students will go to Periods 2, 4, 6, and then advisory (Wildcat Nation Time). Students will begin the day at 7:30 AM in 2nd Period. Juniors will attend most of that class before being released to the Commons around 8:30 AM to prepare for loading the buses for MSU. Students need to be dressed for the weather conditions with comfortable shoes as the field trip will include indoor and outdoor walking. Every junior will be provided a free lunch in the Blair Shannon Dining Hall.
We are hopeful this tour will spark curiosity and juniors will use the summer to explore transition options that might be right for them after high school. It is important to begin planning before the senior year begins.
Special thanks to Dr. David Meinert, Dean of the College of Business for supporting our tour during a busy time on MSU’s campus.
