In remembrance of September 11, 2001, Logan-Rogersville High School’s JROTC program honored the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who answered the call that tragic day.

To commemorate the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11, each of the four JROTC classes took on a stair-climbing challenge designed to represent the approximately 2,200 steps that first responders climbed as they made their way toward the upper floors of the World Trade Center towers.

Students completed the challenge in the school stairwell, climbing at least 2,200 steps as a class. While the physical challenge provided an opportunity to push themselves, the purpose behind each step was much greater—to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice while working to save others.

Collectively, the four JROTC classes completed an incredible 33,024 stair steps, averaging approximately 943.5 steps per person across the program.

Each step served as a reminder of the bravery, determination, and selflessness displayed by the firefighters and other first responders on September 11. The JROTC students demonstrated that remembrance is more than simply looking back—it is taking time to honor the sacrifices of others and carrying their legacy of service forward.
