Equine Dentist Visits LRHS

Equine Dentist Visits Logan-Rogersville High School
Students at Logan-Rogersville High School recently had a unique hands-on learning opportunity when an equine dentist visited campus to demonstrate her work. The specialist provided valuable insight into the field of equine dentistry, explaining the importance of proper dental care for horses.
During the visit, students were able to observe the dentist, from a local veterinary clinic, in action as she worked with two horses. In both cases, the dentist identified and safely removed baby teeth that had not yet come out on their own. The procedure allowed students to see firsthand how equine dental care directly impacts a horse’s comfort, health, and ability to eat properly.
Teachers noted that the visit gave students a rare opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world applications. For many, watching the dentist work helped deepen their understanding of animal science and veterinary careers.
“This was a fantastic experience for our students,” said Mr. Holt. “They were able to see a specialized profession at work and gain knowledge that goes far beyond a textbook.”
The demonstration not only highlighted the importance of equine dental care but also inspired students who may be interested in pursuing careers in animal science, veterinary medicine, or agriculture.
