Therapy Dog Joins LRHS Staff
Logan-Rogersville High School has welcomed a very special new member to the staff this year—Sofie, an 8-year-old golden retriever. Sofie isn’t just any dog; she is a certified therapy dog who has been working in schools since she was a puppy.
Known for her gentle personality and calm presence, Sofie spends her days greeting students and staff throughout the building. Many students stop in the halls to pet her, and teachers say her visits bring smiles to everyone’s faces.
“Sofie just has a way of making the school feel a little brighter,” said Dr. Kathyrn Taylor, her owner. “Whether it’s students who need a quick boost during a tough day or staff members looking for a moment of calm, Sofie is always there.”
Therapy dogs like Sofie are proven to reduce stress, provide comfort, and support positive mental health. At LRHS, she has already become a beloved figure, with students and staff alike making time to give her scratches and hugs throughout the day.
Sofie’s presence is a reminder that learning happens best in a supportive environment—and sometimes, the best support comes on four legs and with a wagging tail.
